My grandpa was in the rear gun tub of his AA gun during this battle. He was on the LST USS Romulus. He said that Okinawa was the only time that he was truly terrified. My English grandpa was on the HMS Coventry, and saw heavy action in the Mediterranean while running convoys to Malta. He died not long after the war, so we dont have his stories. This type of combat would be terrifying. You cant run, and there is no hiding. You can only throw everything that you have at the bastards aytacking you.

There were Allied Air raids on Jap bases in Arrakan. P47's with depth charges on the pylons. I do not recall where this was. Also: I read Jap soldiers in the galleries of Fort Dufferin would not surrender. Solution: read the riot act then roll drums of pol down. Follow up with incendiary grenades and frags. War.

Bravery is not defined by being strong and fighting but rather being scared for dear life but choosing to keep on fighting. And bravery is shown by many during world war 2 and other wars, soldiers and civilians. But in my opinion, the most bravest would be the kamikaze pilots in world war 2. Who were unbelievably scared while approaching enemy warships, but choosing to ram their planes into the enemy to cause the most damage. They knew they were going to die, they knew they will never return home, and they chose to go on with it, to serve the emperor and make the biggest sacrifice for Japan.
